Wine and UHPC - How does it work?


We were approached by an architects office if we could imagine working on a redevelopment project. In this case, it is about the renovation of a very old wine cellar. 
The cellar floor in particular is in need of refurbishment, plus a few storage foundations for large wine barrels. In some places, the floor has, among other things, moisture damage. We could make the floor permanently watertight with a few millimeters of UHPC. The new flooring should be as bright as possible and have a specific structure, which is also possible with UHPC. 
The old cellar vault also needs to be renovated in some places and the architects wants to give a very large room for wine tasting a new design. First models with UHPC / old wood combinations will be executed by us in the near future. As wooden material we use, among other things, old grapevines.

  1. You can re-install the floor a brewery with this material? We have some problems with a customer of ours. It should go as quickly as possible and without much dust during installation.

    1. In recent decades, some floors in European breweries have been lined with UHPC floor coverings. Existing floors were also repaired or used directly in new-build projects. Most of the floors were provided with a bright coating, but there were also design wishes.
      UHPC floor coverings can be laid almost without dust. Likewise, a cleaning of these soils without dust is possible.

  2. I have a continuing problem with our flooring in our cold stores. No matter what we tried, the flooring shows cracks and flaking in a short time. A constant driving with forklift and heavy frozen goods enlarges this problem quite fast. I have heard that UHPC has already been used as a floor covering. Do you have experience with flooring in cold stores and if so which?

    1. In the past, some cold stores in northern Europe and eastern Europe were lined with UHPC TopLayer. UHPC floor coverings can stand extreme frost temperatures. We performed material tests up to a temperature of -180°C. Even at freezing temperatures in a cold store, the wear protection properties and the strength values do not change.
